I need a big break....

I guess, too much things have been happening at a very short 4months span. My breakup, my stagnancy, grandpa's death, Jonathan's missing, dad jobless and now supreme tiredness

I start to feel stagnant. There has been too many things happening and i've been trying to keep up. LIterally. Be it that i'm struggling to stay on top of things or hiding underneath the blanket tearing, i'll survive.

There comes a point of time where i just want to do things i like, hang around, find my 'happiness' and start afresh.

The recent HKG trip has provided me a chance to know more about others, see more of other culture, and experience being alone. I did enjoy some company in HKG, but i guess due to my changed self, i realised i choose what i hope to feel. Hard to explain the feeling but yah, its there.

The next trip will be to Bangkok with Mandy. A first trip that we will go together. The aunties have their doubts and uncertainties, providing lots of advice, warning us of the things to look out for. Guess they have forgotten that we are considered grown ups?

Im just hoping this trip, one of the trip that i considered my own initiated, personal trip will be enjoyable. With just 2 of us, we need all the support from each other.

Jiayou!

Bye, Ah Gong

My maternal grandpa has just passed away last Sunday 18May08 leaving behind 11 children and 20+ grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

We received a call from my Aunt on Sunday morning saying that grandpa might not make it. Mum rushed down the minute she has heard this news. I went down slightly later.

When i arrive, his eyes werent fully open, he looked as though he is looking for something. We couldnt figure out his needs as he was not able to speak already that day and we teared. He was lying at his bed. He lost a lot of weight, his limbs were cold.

We took turns to talk to him and took rest at the living room. Just at 5+pm, aunt beth came out of the room exclaiming that grandpa is not breathing already. We knew he is gone. Our tears flowed.

Then came the preparation for the wake. There was the doctor to call, to certify his death, there was the undertaker to call, needed to book the void deck for the wake, photos, his favourite stuff and other arrangement. This is the first time im experiencing the whole process and there is really a lot to learn. Of course, the aunties and uncles were quick tempered, i was tasked to do stuff, and questions asked are often replied hastily or at a not nice tone. I do understanding the mood. But im upset to issit it? Who cares about me?

Anyway, the few days were spent with the many preparations and frustration could always be seen. This is the time where the whole family needs to stick together, and brave through the pain together.

Today, we gathered at the void deck for his departure to the Church for mass and cremation. The ambience was tense, more frustration seen, i've gotten more "whatever" and i was tasked to stay back to look after Grandma. I really would like to send Grandpa off. But i know someone has to stay back to look after grandma.
I saw as they walked ah gong to a distance and headed off to the church.

Goodbye ah gong, please take care. We will look after ah ma and all the aunties and uncles.

Bye....

Thanks to all who has contributed bak kim and pay your last respect at ah gong's wake.

p.s Im glad Aunt Margaret make it in tie to see ah gong off....

Hong Kong 3rd Day

First day at work today. Was assigned to go to Client's office and help with the implant team. (an implant team is where the travel consultant's are located in the client's office) Feel a little uneasy with that as i wasn't really involved in the startup of this system migration but have to go ahead with it with the knowledge i have from my own SG office migration

First time i took the MTR train alone. Wasn't equip with the map today and hence, armed with the address and phone number, i just make my way to the office. I was slightly lost after i exit and have to checked with the passerbys to ask for directions. I realised one thing about the office buildings is that the security is rather tight, and they do have staff to help with people taking the lift. Directing them and all. In the morning, there is also a queue for taking the lift and hence ensure all is orderly. Nice....

The first day at work was rather slow as my colleagues did not have much questions to ask and due to their assignment of work, i would only have to take care of one person. Not too bad for the first day.

Lunch was spent with my colleagues who brought me to the local coffeshop for makan. I was sitting right underneath the aircon outside the building so it was a bit scary.

Nothing much happen today except that i celebrated my HKG colleagues bday at office and went to walk around alone after work as Bee Kim needed to conduct training tomorrow and she needs to prepare. Went to Island Beverly which consists of small shops selling stuff. Alike Bugis Village or Marina Square corner. Did not buy much but spotted my MonChiChi! was looking for it in Singapore but it longer sells. I used to have 2 when i was younger and it could suck its thumb....cute!

That's all for today.....

Hong Kong 3rd Day

HKG 2nd Day 04May - Ocean Park

Bee Kim wanted to have Dim Sum breakfast and we met early in the morning at 7am. Went to Windsor Place opposite our hotel and up to one of the restaurant. However, the Sim Sum is not available till 10am. Sigh….she was disappointed. In the end, we walk around and met someone who offered his help. Guess he spotted us looking ‘lost’ or is looking for something. We thought he is indeed helpful and went ahead with his suggestion to Times Square, which he explained should have lots of Chinese restaurant’s available for morning breakfast.

Alas, luck was not with us and none of the restaurants at Times Square were open at that hour. We walk back to the area near the hotel and had to settle for breakfast at Da Jia Le.
They served American and Chinese breakfast. The serving was considered rather big (for me as I cant take heavy breakfast early in the day) but it tasted nice. One thing we realized in Hong Kong is that when you are ordering Tea, you do not need to indicate if you require tea with or without milk as Hong Kong do not seem to serve Tea – O, ie. Tea without milk. We settled for breakfast and went back to the hotel lobby to meet Louisa for our Ocean Park outing! Took a train to Admiralty station and took a bus 629 to Ocean Park. The bus ride was fast, prolly 15mins and I started to take lots of photos. We were there around 11am and boy, the weather is very clear and sunny. Hong Kong seems to be very hazy with lots of fog (but its not those high PSI thingy) and this day seems to be soo different from yesterday’s. We started to plan for the rides that we wanted to take and off we went for our first ride. Mine Train. As we were waiting for our turn, I realized that in Ocean Park, they have bag deposits beside the ride for riders to place their belongings while taking the ride at ease. I really appreciate this as for individual travelers, its really convenient to have safe storage place.

By the time we finish our ride, it was hot! The mine train was okay for a start. Nothing too scary or so. But Bee Kim and I did scream out loud and the camera captured me with my mouth WIDE open. Opps….

We started taking the escalator to go further up and past by a grill shop. Louisa is an Caucasian who is not too adventurous with Chinese food. So we thought we could have an earlier lunch at this grilled place so that she can have a better meal. By then, Louisa’s cheeks were really red as she was very hot and we were rather worried for her. Worried that she will suffer a heat stroke. Touch wood.

We decided on the raging river ride next, which is like a roller coaster ride, but in the water. It was a good way to chill out, we thought. We started queuing and there and then, after looking at the people who came down the slope and water started splashing on them, we start to worry about who should sit in front! Some of them came down dripping wet! Opps. I finally volunteered to sacrifice and sit in front as Louisa is wearing a white top and Bee Kim did not make much comments, so I thought the best and easiest way was to volunteer to sit in front.

We went on the ride, splashed the water on ourselves on the first slope, and made our way for the big slope. Down we went and the water splashed on me….not as much as the first but enough to get me slightly wet. Not too bad for a wet weather though. Bought an ice cone each after that to chill down but alas, the ice cone was simply TOO sweet. It was pure syrup! Thrown away mine after finishing the big crushed ice. Too sinful.

Louisa started to feel real uncomfy and suggested that she go back first while we go ahead. In the end, I suggested that we all leave together. Im rather ok with not taking the rest of the rides. There’s always another chance…..Took the cable car down. The view was scenic and nice as it went over the sea. While we reached the bottom of the hill, I was captivated by a guy doing ‘capriture’ portraits. I wanted to have myself drawn and got them to wait for me. In the end, Bee Kim decided to do one, with her boyfriend drawn in as well using a pic as a guide. We coaxed Louisa to do one as well and boy was she cute. We got her to have one drawn, where she is ice skating. And boy did she look sooo pretty in the pic. “You looked soo feminine in the photo”, I commented.

We soon make our way back and Louisa went back to the hotel, while Bee Kim and I went to Windsor place to have a walk. We went scouting for a Dim Sum place again and in the end, went to KTV at Red Dot. It was only HKD75 for 2.5hr and there is free 2 drinks each. The room was BIG, bigger than those in Singapore for a 2 person room and the sound system was real good! After KTV, we went walking around and started to help Bee Kim scout for her anniversary gift.

She bought a musical box with Forever Love music and we went Ikea, scouting for other gifts as well. She commented that I am a romantic, given the ideas that I suggested….hehe….no puking pls…

We sort of skipped dinner and instead, had dessert at Xu Liu Shan AGAIN near our hotel. Yes again. 2 nights straight in a row at Xu Liu Shan. I must say that the dessert was yummy, especially their Mango dessert. Best in Hong Kong man….Do try on your next visit. No regrets though……

Tomorrow is Monday, workday….sigh…..to be continued…day 3…

Hong Kong First Day

Did not managed to pack all the things that i want for the trip tomorrow. In the end, was too tired and went to bed. I realised that a lot of things can only be packed after im dressed and ready to go. Things like facial wash and makeup and all.
Slept at 1+ and woke up at 5.30am. The flight is at 8.30am and i needed to leave the house latest 6.30am.

Did a final check before leaving for the airport. Mum and Dad was awaked to say goodbye.

I took my luggage and left to hail a cab downstairs. However, when i open my main door, there is a surprise for me. Someone sticked an envelope with my name on the gate. "it's from BC", i told mum. I took the envelope and left.

On the cab, i opened up the envelope to see a card, self-made, with the words Hong Kong crafted out of the card. He wish me have a safe trip.

Somehow, the radio in the taxi started to play a sad song. What a timing.

Anyway, i arrived at Terminal 3. Checked in my luggage at the fast drop counter. If one really wants to save time on the queue for check in, printing the SQ boarding pass online or printing your boarding pass at the self check in kiosk is really great. (note: the self check in kiosk require you to have a machine readable passport) It makes check in smoother, and faster. Next, I had to post the camera repair receipt to MX. My own camera had lines on all images taken and i've only discovered on Sunday! My goodness. I had to rush to Casio Service Centre on Tuesday during lunch to send it for repair. They called me on Friday to inform that the camera is ready for collection, but as i have a lunch time meeting on friday, i couldnt make time to collect the camera. Hence, decided to just use Sis's camera that i borrowed from her on Thursday. But MX offered to collect my cam and bring to HK for me. So, good, will have two cameras when she arrived.

Now the challenge. Where’s the Singapore Post Shop? Boy! i remembered the airport has a Singapore Post shop somewhere in T1 but i couldn’t possibly run there to post the envelope. It just din seen an alternative that I’ll venture into. In the end, i searched high and low in T3 to finally find it at B1, arrival hall. It’s actually just a post box! luckily, i had prepared the envelope with the address and stamp and all I had to do was just to mail it out.

Then i bought a simple breakfast at McDonald's, a hashbrown and regular green tea and off to the departure gate. Well, as my passport is machine readable, i went through the self "check in" counter. Not sure if that's what you call it actually but its a machine that allows you to scan your passport, go into a gate, get stuck between gates, scan your thumbprint, and then move into the departure hall. Amazingly fast.

Not wanting to board the plane without a book, i decided to get a book from Harris to kill some time on board in case i din feel like watching movie or play with the in-flight entertainment.

Bought the best selling book on the shelf and paid for it. Suddenly, felt like vomiting. I kept burping air and went to the ladies to try to vomit whatever out.

I had this same feeling before, the last time when i performed at Alex's company D n D. Same thing. Went to toilet to vomit and stomach felt soo much better.

Then i receive a sms from BC. "Its abt 8am now, guess you must have gone in and i must have missed you....." He came? I thought i told him not to? Somehow, deep down, i know he will come. Guess, the 6 years spent together did meant that i understand him better, in some ways.

Anyway, in the end, he still couldnt catch me through the transparent glass that separate us from the public area and the departure gates. No fate. I had to go off as well. Its 8am and im not at the gate yet.

The flight seems full and a lot of Indians national are going to Hong Kong as well. And they go in big groups.

There is quite a queue at the boarding gate and luckily, the staffs could still manage to clear the queue in time for boarding.

I was seated at 33A, a window seat. The seat configuration was 3 by 3 by 3. Seated innermost, i had an empty seat between me and a man, seated by the aisle. The minute he sat down, he was as though stunged by the sleeping bug and went to sleep immediately. Sigh. I should have gone to the ladies prior being seated. Arh....nevermind. We'll see how it goes later.

Flight took off. Breakfast was ready to be served. Finally decided to wake my ‘neighbour’ up from his beauty sleep. I did, and went to the ladies.

It was my turn to order breakfast when im seated back at my seat. I wanted Veal sausage with potato. The food looks nice but due to the vomit incident, i decided to go light. Took the bread with butter, the fruits, the sausage and potato and the lychee mudding dessert and that's all.

Watched on board the in-flight movie First Sunday. Its about how 2 people decided to rob a church when they needed cash fast. 1 did it for his ex-wife (I think so), to pay the house rent so that he can keep his son in the same city and the other, needed cash to pay off the bad company's ring leader for some promised sale of his stuff. Shall not go into details of the movie.

I arrived at HKG international airport on time. First thing i did, was to visit the ladies. And true enough, all ladies toilet always have a queue. sigh.

Went to the customs after that to clear immigration, collect my baggage and head to HKG city. The queue seems long, but i managed to clear immigration, get my baggage within 30mins. That is considered pretty fast for me.

I was contemplating to take the airport express train or take a cab. After much thought. not wanting to miss the experience on the airport express, decided to just buy the ticket and give it a try.

(Gosh, im typing real fast as im paying for the hotel broadband and i've only paid an hour and time is running out!)

The airport express train has a lugggage storage area just beside each door. Placing my luggage at one of the space, i went to take a seat, waiting for the train to set off. The cabins were of different category, i believe. Saw this sign that states the cabin that i'm in is a quiet area. Hmm….interesting

Anyway, from the airport to Hong Kong MTR station, it takes estimated 25mins. From the Hong Kong MTR station, i took a airport shuttle bus, H2 from just outside the exit of the station (its an underground station) and the bus takes almost 40mins to reach the hotel. The airport shuttle bus is a free bus service for those passengers taking the airport express train. It’s an economical option for those who wants to save more money for shopping instead.

Checked in the hotel and within 20mins, met up with Bee Kim and off for lunch and shopping! Around the hotel, there were lots of shopping arcade and eatery. No worries about not knowing what to do at night. Hehe.

Went shopping at H & M branch at Langham Place in Mongkok after lunch and my goodness, there are lots of people. This is considered quite an affordable label to shop for and well, after just 2 hours, I’ve bought the following
1. A white jacket that fits real well
2. A checkered shorts that I though looks like boxers after trying it back at the hotel
3. A pair of earrings.
4. A black cap

It was time for dinner after that. We had beef noodles and then off we went for shopping again. Went around ladies street and a couple streets beside.

At the end of the day, I bought some souveniers, a bag for myself and we had dessert at the famous Xu Liu Shan. Boy, they have outlets almost everywhere! And the dessert is real nice. Do try it when you have a chance. Cant miss it. It’s everywhere!

Time to be back at the hotel for nice shower and rest. Tomorrow, got to have dim sum breakfast and going to Ocean Park with Bee Kim and Louisa.

(in the end, decided to type my blog entry in word, and just copy and paste the entry online when I have access. The hotel do not have complimentary in room broadband access and hence, got to find a way to be economical and efficient!)

More updates tomorrow. Cya!

Lyrics

Woo…

Da di...

Woo…
我不會把你踢到大沙漠
